Program Idea

Hi Mr. O'Shea,
I am not sure how to leave an idea for you. I wondered about looking at the Cab situation at the Royal York. It was written up On Sat. Dec. 6, 2008 in the Globe and Mail. However, what they didn't examine was the experience of the traveller who travels to Toronto by rail and then trys to hail a cab to get to a downtown hotel- particularly a female. (my husband says he has not had the same experience.) I live in Kingston and with the 3 hour trip, it is ideal to take the train, especially if the weather may be bad. However, myself and my fellow work colleagues are starting to rethink that due to difficulties with cabs when we arrive.
Myself and two other female colleagues travelled by train to Toronto to attend a hospital rounds. We walked out to hail a cab. Unaware of the situation I leaned in the door and said we were headed for the Delta Chelsea. The cab sped up and left me running after him to no avail. We went to the next cab driver who very reluctantly took the three of us but we had to put our own luggage in the trunk. (good thing we weren't ill or old.) He looked miserable and then finally said he had waited 2 hours and was stuck with us- he almost was tearful. I paid him $20. The head of my clinic had arrived the day before and she had asked several cabs to take her and they all refused. She finally sat down in the last one and put her luggage in, refusing to say where she was going until she was in and the door was shut. The driver was very angry and drove very quickly swearing at everyone.
I need to go to Toronto again in Jan. for work. I would take the train, but I dread the interaction with the taxi. I could walk I suppose, but on a bad weather evening when it is getting dark, that doesn't feel like a good option either.
Who said Toronto is a friendly city!!
