Re:Sean O'Shea: Investigative/Consumer Reporter

Sean, thank you for your recent report on Third Party Gas suppliers likes of Direct Energy. I too was caught in their unrelenting contract to get out. I did sign up for a five yr. contract and of course at the time of signing back then, all they explained was the"benefit" of locking in for 5 yrs. as gas pricing was unstable or "volatile " and rates jumped without advance notice by Enbridge. What they failed to discuss back then was that I would automatically be locked in year to year contract at the going rate (FAR GREATER then what I signed up for and even more then Enbridge) if I did not inform them of my non aceptance of their renewal terms. That o fcourse did not materialize as they claim they sent me a notice of renewal....YEAH RIGHT...in any case, I was forced into a rate that was almost double the one I had originally signed. To say the least they "dinged" me for a penalty of almost $300 to cancel my plan for which they charged around $0.44 per cubic meter of gas. I reluctantly did, and good thing I did because today I got my gas bill from Enbridge at $0.235 per cubic meter with an additional credit of $0.062 for a grand total of $0.174 cubic meter of gas, which is cheaper then the five yr. contract that they had me sign up for a $0.27 cubic meter, FIVE YEARS AGO....GO FIGURE!!! Please keep doing the great work that you do and keep us all informed that pressure sales guys promising you savings is NOT what they promise nor do they tell you the whole truth of what is in the contract at expiry........
