Re: Aeroplan: Your Account Is Gone - The Company Has Your Points!
by Anonymous
I hate to defend the "big bad corporation", but unless you've been living under a rock, as an Aeroplan member, you have had plenty of opportunity in the last year to become familiar with the expiry policy. I have received 2 emails, addressed personally to me, advising of the changes in the expiry policy. The last email subject line was clear as a bell, "Aeroplan Account Expiry Information". It came two months before my account was set to expire, and gave me plenty of opportunity to ensure I had an activity in my account before the July 1st expiry date. Furthermore, my parents, neither of whom have email addresses, both received 2 letters in the mail. The first advising of the changes to the policy, sent last Nov/Dec 2006. The second letters came at the end of May, advising of the impending expiry on July 1st. Luckily, we actually read our mail, and have all ensured our accounts remain in good standing for at least another year......with a simple purchase at Esso. (Mom didn't even have to buy gas!) Come on everyone, we as consumers need to stop behaving like toddlers, and take some responsibility! Stay informed. Read the fine-print. Read what they send you! Call the company if you receive information from them that is unclear. Any business can only endeavour to send you information regarding its' practices....they can't make you read it.....that's up to you! I'm sure that there are millions of Aeroplan members who do just that, and who continue to enjoy the value of the miles they have earned.
